UPS Package Tracking With RSS

I wrote an RSS feed for UPS package tracking and put it up on my main website (http://www.young-technologies.com/Utilities/PackageTracking/).

Update!

I moved the UPS and USPS tracking services to their own domain: http://www.SimpleTracking.com

i find it wierd that this project is done in .NET
im even more unpleased that the RSSMaster itself is closed source. im terrified that this is possible when a Get Firefox label is on this blog. wtf…

koko, I wrote it in .NET because that’s what I primarily develop in, and can get things done the quickest in.

RSSMaster is a nice little utility, but there isn’t really much to it. It’s not difficult to write out RSS, I just thought I would avoid reinventing the wheel.

As for the Firefox logo, I use the tools that are the most efficent for me. For most of what I do, Firefox works the best.

.NET is no more weird than Java. They share hundreds of similarities as well as differences, and one isn’t hands down better than the other.

As for the RSS, I would suggest using RSS.NET http://www.rssdotnet.com/ — an open source library that I’ve used with great success.

Interesting RSS app; I like it.
For FedEx these capabilities are known as Web Integration Solutions (WIS).

They are available free of charge, although you need a FedEx account to register for them.

As you will see, tracking is just the tip of this iceberg. FedEx offers free telephone support at 800-810-9073 (say “Web Integrated Solutions” or “Web A P I” at the voice-recognition prompt).

Another method of getting this information from FedEx is to use Plugin to FedEx.com. This is a basic HTML interface, but that’s all you need for tracking. To register you just need an email address.

P.S. Yes, I am involved, but no, I’m not in Marketing. ;-> I love to see the varied uses people come up with for this stuff.

This is great! Thank you! I definitely would like RSS feeds for FedEx and USPS.

Anyway I can put it on my own server? Worried that it may dissappear someday from http://www.young-technologies.com/.

    Thanks again…very useful.

    Hope

Once I release the DLL that interfaces with the different shipping companies, it will be pretty easy to put on your own website.

I’m going to look into getting it working with the other shippers soon.

As for it disappearing from my site, you don’t need to worry about that any time soon. I really have no reason not to keep it there. I’ll try to keep it working as long as possible.

Johnvey, thanks for the link to http://www.RSSDotNet.com

That project does look pretty promising. I may take a look at it. One thing it does seem to be lacking is the ability to do databinding. I’m not sure why they left that out. You have to manually loop through all the rows in the datatable. It’s not that hard, but still a little more work none the less.

I just released a Perl version for those who want it:

Hi we’re working on a .net c# integration with the UPS XML Online Shipping tool and was wondering if anyone had any code that might help us. UPS documentation/support is miserable. Thanks

Did UPS ever give you a reason why they pulled the plug on RSS feeds. I can’t seem to find out why they don’t do this *mandatory* feature.
